Information About Our School
The Geneseo Central School District is located approximately thirty miles south of Rochester, New York. Our enrollment is primarily comprised of students from Groveland and Geneseo. In addition to many historic landmarks, SUNY Geneseo's campus is located a mile from our district. We are fortunate to have community members that support education and that advocate for the best interests of students.

ELA Instruction: Our reading and writing curriculum is developed locally and based on the NYS Next Generation Standards of Learning. We have a healthy balance of phonics, vocabulary, fluency, phonemic awareness, comprehension, writing, encoding and more. In 24-25, we are piloting Being a Writer and Being a Reader as resources from Collaborative Classroom. We use a variety of assessments to drive our instruction throughout the school year.
Math: Our math curriculum is developed locally and based on the NYS Next Generation Standards of Learning. Our world relies heavily on math, therefore we are committed to creating learning experiences that support problem solving, modeling, precision, and structure.
STEAM: Our elementary STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math) program offers our students hands-on experiences that are based on the ISTE Standards. Students will be engaged in inquiry based projects housed in our new STEAM Lab. Coding, Robotics, Maker Traits, Digital Communication & Citizenship, Engineering Projects AI and much more are a part of our students' learning experiences across Geneseo. This course work will be ever changing as technology continues to evolve.
SEL: Social Emotional Learning and Character Education are the heart of education. We believe that we must reach before we teach. To support continuity of learning across all grade levels, our teachers lead daily lessons using the CharacterStrong curriculum resource. We also integrate the 5 SEL Core Competencies and our very own GO BLUE character traits to support school-wide positive behavior choices.
Social Studies and Science: Our elementary science curriculum is aligned and based on the Next Generation Science Standards. We utilize "hands on" science kits and online resources such as "Mystery Science" as resources to support our curriculum. Our Social Studies curriculum is based on the NYS K-5 Framework. More information is available on the topics of study for each grade level by clicking here.
Special Area Classes: Students participate in Art, Physical Education, Music, Library/Media, Technology, Chorus/Band (optional at grades 4/5) classes on a weekly basis.
