About the Superintendent

Dr. Jon Hunter earned his Master’s in Education Administration from the University of Rochester in 1980, followed by a Doctorate in the same field in 1988.

He began his career in educational leadership as an Assistant Principal at Springfield High School in Pennsylvania before stepping into the role of Principal at Bethlehem Central High School in 1988.

In July 2001, Dr. Hunter took on his first Superintendent position at Geneseo Central School District, where he served until October 2006. During his tenure at Geneseo, he played a key role in securing approval for renovation projects and integrating mental health services into the district. Under his leadership, the district earned the New York State "Most Improved Middle School" award, recognizing a significant increase in students achieving proficiency on the grade 8 math assessment.

Following his time at Geneseo, Dr. Hunter has held various leadership roles across New York State, including Superintendent, Principal, Interim Superintendent, and Interim Principal.

Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Hunter has earned several awards, including the New York State Council of School Superintendents Distinguished Service Award in 2011 and the Anti-Defamation League Educator of the Year Award in 1996 for his World of Difference Peer Training program. He is also a proud member of Kappa Delta Pi, the University of Rochester's Honor Society in Education.

Role of the Superintendent

The Superintendent of Schools for the Geneseo Central School District oversees a range of critical responsibilities. These include facilitating effective communication between the district and the Board of Education, supporting the short-term and long-term transition of the Executive Principal into the Superintendent role, and managing business, policy, and legal matters with the Board of Education and appropriate staff members.

About the Executive Principal

Mr. Michael Salatel has been appointed as the Executive Principal, a role that will oversee the daily operations of the District.

In this capacity, Mr. Salatel will serve as the Instructional Leader, managing program oversight and tracking the progress of leadership, faculty, and staff across the district.

Additionally, Mr. Salatel will act as a key liaison, creating relationships with the community, students, and professional associates.

A key portion of his role will be to cultivate a positive school culture and community environment, emphasizing transparency, effective communication, integrity, and respect.

Our commitment to you is excellence. Mike knows the students, faculty, staff, and community and he has consistently provided high quality and passionate leadership for Geneseo Central. Mike will serve as Executive Principal and provide day-to-day leadership for the District. Jon has 45+ years of educational experience and will share ideas for success for all. As Interim Superintendent Jon will primarily be responsible for policy and budget matters.
