Geneseo Central School District’s Board of Education is close to approving a plan for another capital improvement project.
The Board of Education, superintendent and project officials met with parents, teachers and other community members on Oct. 16 in the GCS Middle and High School Media Center to share information about the possibility of a capital improvement project vote being held later this school year.
The proposed project, "Safe Campus: Enhancing Security and Enriching Student Life," would fully repair the main gymnasium, create a safety vestibule at the entrance of the school, update the auditorium, relocate Universal Pre-Kindergarten students to the district and other learning improvements for students and staff.
Officials revealed floor plans that detailed where work would take place, estimated financial impact for taxpayers and reviewed responses from a staff survey that asked what they felt is most needed for students. The board has discussed in previous board meetings the urgent need to address critical infrastructure issues, such as the gym walls.
Superintendent Cindy Flowers emphasized the invaluable and essential role of community input in shaping the future of the district.
"Active participation from our community members is pivotal to not only addressing the safety and educational requirements of our students but also to aligning proposed projects with the core values and priorities of our community." Flowers said.
The Board of Education is expected to vote to send the project to the New York State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR) during a Nov. 6 board meeting. At the same meeting, the board is also expected to set a date for an official public vote of the proposal.
