We are proud to announce that the College Board awarded Geneseo Central School District “Bronze recognition” on the 2023 AP School Honor Roll for the Class of 2023.
The AP® School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results for students while broadening access. Schools can earn this recognition annually based on criteria that reflect a commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness.
According to AP Central, schools must meet or exceed the criteria for a given recognition level for all three metrics, which includes college culture, college credit and college optimization.
GCS placed bronze (48% of students) for college culture, gold (39% of students) for college credit, and gold (13% of students) for college optimization.
“This remarkable achievement is a testament to the dedication of our entire school community: teachers, counselors, administrators, students, and parents,” Superintendent Cindy Flowers said.
"Many years ago, the Board of Education established a goal to increase student participation in AP exams. Together, we've opened doors to college success for more students through AP courses to build confidence and readiness for the future. Congratulations to all! Your commitment inspires us, and we're grateful for this recognition of your success."
For planning and goal setting purposes for schools, College Board listed the following criteria to earn silver status:
Expand college culture by enabling 50% of the Class of 2024 to experience one AP course before graduating.
Assist with college affordability by enabling 30% of the Class of 2024 to earn college credit by earning an AP Exam score of 3.
Optimize student's college readiness by creating opportunities for 5% of the Class of 2024 to take a total of five APs across their high school years, with at least one taken in 9th or 10th grade.
