Beginning Nov. 1, Geneseo Central School will provide free breakfast and lunch to all students!
On Sept. 26, the U.S. The Department of Agriculture (USDA) expanded its access to free meals to more students across the U.S., including our district, by expanding the availability of the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP).
CEP is a meal service option that allows schools to provide meals at no cost to all students without requiring families to apply for free and reduced-priced meals. Before the expanded access, at least 40% of students had to live in households participating in certain income-based federal assistance programs in order for a school or district to be eligible for CEP. The USDA lowered the threshold from 40% to 25%, qualifying our district.
The expanded access to provide healthy school meals for all students, at no cost, will allow the district to promote a healthier and more focused learning environment.
Here are a few key details about this exciting change:
Free Meals for All: Every student at our school will enjoy free breakfast and lunch.
Elimination of Application Process: With CEP, we no longer need to collect household applications, making the process simpler and more convenient for everyone.
Healthier and Focused Learning: Proper nutrition is crucial for your child's success in school, and this program ensures that every student has access to nutritious meals.
We are committed to providing the best for our students and this change is a significant step towards that goal.
