The Geneseo Central School District is preparing for a capital improvement project vote that aims to address immediate infrastructure issues and improvements to district facilities.
During a Nov. 6 meeting, the Board of Education unanimously approved the public vote date of Jan. 30, 2024, for the $28 million proposed project, “Safe Campus: Enhancing Security and Enriching Student Life Capital Improvement Project.” The alternate vote date would be Feb. 6 if inclement weather prohibits the vote from taking place on Jan. 30.
“I’m thankful for our Board and administrators’ help throughout this process,” Superintendent Cindy Flowers said. “There are critical infrastructure issues that we need to address soon to ensure the continuity of our educational program that call for us to ask our community for their vote in January.”
The project, which would carry a 7.37% tax levy increase, would fully repair the main gymnasium, create a safety vestibule at the entrance of the school, update the auditorium, relocate Universal Pre-Kindergarten students to district grounds and include other learning improvements for students and staff.
School administrators held a community meeting on the proposal on Oct. 16 to discuss the scope of the project and reveal different designs. The board is expected to review and approve the final project scope at a meeting in the coming weeks.
