What is the PTSA?

What we do:

The Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) is open to anyone who supports its mission. Geneseo’s PTSA works to support the learning and growth of all kids at GSCD.  We raise money though intentional fundraisers (like the Kindness Challenge, Holiday Shop, Book Fair) and community events (like Purse Bingo) so that we can support the amazing work of kids and teacheres at GSCD.

Here you can sign up to be a member (go to the “Store” tab), join the volunteer list, see upcoming events, and view our elected board members.

Ways we support the kids and teachers:

  • Mini-Grants – all members can apply for $200 grants once a year to enhance the educational experience of kids; we fund all sorts of things from decorations for Read Across America week to extra materials for craft club or bike bus to a community outing with the English Language Learners to practice english skills.
  • We provide annual funding for Geneseo traditions like Senior Bash, 5th Grade Whale Watch, and Pastries with Peeps.
  • Organize and offer Free Events for Familites – Trunk or Treat, Kids’ Night Out, trips to Altitude or Bowling or Movies, the Hero Dance
  • Statewide advocacy – like supporting and advocating for NY State’s cell phone ban in schools

Ways get involved:

You can do a little or a lot! It’s based on your interest and capacity.

  1. Participate in fundraisers!  Your monetary support allows these great things to keep happening.
  2. Sign up to volunteer – we always need help staffing events and fundraisers, two hours is all you need!
  3. Become a member ($5) – this money supports our work and gets you access to state and national PTA resources as well as voting rights at the local level!  You can vote for how we spend our money and what events or fundraisers we pursue.
  4. Attend meetings and/or Join a Committee – your unique experience and knowledge and connections are valuable to the work we do; it’s great to get connected to other families, teachers, and administrators at GCSD.
